Breaking News:
The 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals ruled on October 17th, 2001
that the Constitution guarantees individuals the right to own
firearms. Read the Court Decision While they found that Emerson
could be deprived of his Second Amendment Rights during the
course of the Protection Order, the Court found that the Right to
Bear Arms is an Individual Right given to the People. This is a real
victory.
"I fear all we have done is to awakened a sleeping giant and fill him
with a terrible resolve." Attributed to Vice-Admiral Yamamoto,
Commander-in-Chief of the Japanese Navy, after his successful
attack on Pearl Harbor.
Finally the NRA is offering a free e-mail forwarding service. Go to

and select Forward to tell it where to direct all e-mail that is sent to you via
@MyNRA.COM . Say I support the NRA and our Right to Bear Arms with
every e-mail you send.
It is critically important that we remain diligent in defending our Second
Amendment rights.
Remember that a person without a firearm is a subject, while a person with a
firearm is a citizen. Speaking of which, if we were still a colony we would
have just lost the right to bear arms (July 1997). To the surprise of no one,
since firearms have been illegal to own, the violent crime rate in England has
Significantly increased. In England and Wales in 1995; the Assault rate is
100% greater, the Robbery rate is 20% greater, and the Burglary rate is 30%
greater then those crimes reported in the US. The US Assault rate was
surpassed by England and Wales in 1983, the US Robbery rate was surpassed
by England and Wales in 1993, and the US Burglary rate was surpassed by
England and Wales in 1991.
Since Australia has banded all firearms it comes as no surprise that their
Armed Robbery rate has increased over 44%. Please see my Australian facts
sources.
Is anybody listening?
Why do I own a gun? For the same reason that I have automobile and
homeowners insurance. For the same reason I put on my seat belt and drive a
car with ABS and airbags, I hope that I never have to rely on any of my
precautions. But if I do, at least they are in place.
According to the Washington Times, a staffer for the Maryland Governor
Parris Glendening forwarded gun-death data from the HCI website to the
House Ways and Means Committee, claiming Maryland had 1,408
firearms-related fatalities in 1997, almost double the correct data. HCI also
admitted misrepresenting gun-deaths data in several other states. (NRA-ILA
Alert Vol 7, No. 11 for 3/17/00)
Charlton Heston's fabulous address given to the Harvard Law School Forum.
Mr. Heston's speech, Winning the Cultural War , is well worth the 30
minutes it takes to hear. "If Americans believed in political correctness we
would still be King George's boys..."
"The Post-columbine reaction is regrettable. When rights are whittled away,
they tend not to return." (Ray Vasvari, Legal Director of the Ohio ACLU
talking about students' First Amendment rights in a story by Richard Carelli,
AP found in the The Morning Sentinel, Central Maine Newspapers, Tuesday
September 7, 1999 page B8)
"More monitoring [of hate groups and dangerous individuals] is not the
solution. The issue is guns killing people. We're ignoring the issue. Let's not
turn ourselves into a police state to watch people with guns. Let's get the
guns out of the hands of citizenry." (Steven Presser, Legal Director of the
Pennsylvania branch of the ACLU. The Philadelphia Inquirer Newspaper,
Sunday August 15, 1999 page A-10). Send the ACLU some feedback.
Guns are as responsible for violence as cameras are for pornography. (Letter
to the NRA American Hunter 1998, author unknown)
"They that can give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety,
deserve neither liberty nor safety." (Benjamin Franklin -1759)
"The American people must be willing to give up a degree of personal privacy
in exchange for safety and security." ( FBI Director Louis Freeh -1993 -from
the 24OCT94 National Review)
"The strongest reason for people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is,
as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."
(Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334 -C.J.Boyd, Ed., 1950)
"He that would make his own liberty secure, must guard even his enemy from
oppression; for if he violates this duty, he establishes a precedent which will
reach to himself." (Thomas Paine -1737-1809, conclusion, Dissertation on
First Principles of Government, 1795)
"This year will go down in history. For the first time a civilized nation has full
gun registration. Our streets will be safe; our police more efficient and the
world will follow our lead in the future." (Adolph Hitler, 1935) This quote is
in fact not correct. If it often cited but it never occurred. Please check out
this Urban Legends website for more information about this incorrect quote.
